Getting to know your teachers...

I have been teaching since 2003.  I earned my Bachelor of Arts Degrees from UCSC  in both Developmental Psychology and in Feminist Studies, and my CLAD Multi-Subject teaching credential from CSUMB. Some high points of my career thus far have been my being awarded California League of Middle schools (CLMS) teacher of the year award, as well as being nominated as a CLMS-region 5 teacher of the year finalist. I was also invited to present at CLMS on the topic of building classroom community. I also served as a master teacher to San Jose State teaching credential students. Last but not least, I found my way to this small sweet school, Happy Valley. I am dedicated to the HVS community on multiple levels as I am also a parent of two Happy Valley students!
As a teacher, I am committed to creating a classroom environment that fosters the development of the whole child. Building confidence, independence, and academic risk-taking all while maintaining mutual-respect, and a strong sense of class and school community. My thematic units are rich with creativity, rigor nature and definitely tap into the multiple intelligences as a way to evidence growth and understanding. After completing training through the Mindful Schools program, I incorporate the concept of mindfulness to help students develop their own skills of self-regulation and attentiveness.

I  feel blessed to be apart of this community as a both a teacher and parent, and am looking forward to an awesome year with your children.

I started my teaching career in 2003 after completing my Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies at UCSC, and receiving my teaching credential at CSUMB.

I have extensive experience teaching in the primary grades, having taught K-2 in San Francisco, San Jose and finally at De Laveaga School in Santa Cruz. During this time I developed a deep understanding of how to keep learning fun and engaging while providing academically challenging content to meet the needs of all students.

I am extremely excited to become part the Happy Valley community and work at a small school that values and teaches to the whole child! I am passionate about creating a classroom culture that fosters kindness and respect for others. I want students to take ownership for their learning, feel confident in taking risks, and find joy in letting their uniqueness shine bright. I will support each and every one of my students to ensure they are getting the best possible education by nurturing their academic, social and emotional needs. I love teaching second grade and seeing the amazing growth that takes place during this special year.

I look forward to working with you and your child this year!
